Upholstery 101

This past week I started my much anticipated upholstery class. I decided to take this class for a few reasons, 1.) I have a sewing machine that has been sitting in my closet for over 5 years because I can't figure out how to thread it! I figure after this class I should at least me able to do that! 2.) I have a hideous green chair that I love that I picked up when I was about 16 and have always wanted to do something cool with it. 3.) I think it will be really cool to learn the construction of things. 4.) Someday when my husband is done with school and gainfully employed maybe I can do some side work!

My first class was Tuesday evening. I met my classmates, it is a small class, only 3other people and the teach. It is a very laid back class and the teach is very fun. The first day we learned how to thread our machines and bobbins. Which sounds simple, but as mentioned, I have failed at this for over 5 years. At any rate, with his great skills I was able to pick up pretty quickly. The machines we are learning on are industrial so I felt even more accomplished. On Wednesday I had my second class and look what I made!

The lines aren't really a design or anything, we were simply practicing sewing straight lines, but the final project was a bar stool cover! I was quit proud of my creation and a little amazed I was able to do this in just 2 classes. This is a 5 week class so I am excited for all the new techniques I will be learning! Will keep the blog posted of course!

Wedding Porn!

Yes, it is my fav kind of porn by far!! I love a good wedding and last weekend we went to the fabulous wedding of Bret and Christine's. As luck would have it the ceremony and reception was less than a mile from our place right here in Chicago.

The ceremony was short and very sweet on a gorgeous day. The sun was just beaming through the atrium and it truly was a sight to see. After the lovely ceremony and cocktail hour we were escorted to dinner which was, well, brunch! The food was amazing, I especially liked the deep dish french toast and eggs benedict.

After, we were off to literally tear up the dance floor. I was super excited because Bret and Christine had the peeps from Toast and Jam dj their wedding which is who I totally would have gone with had I been married in Chicago. Mike and I literally danced ALL NIGHT! Sort of similar to our own wedding! It was by far the most fun we've had at a wedding!

My most favorite part of the wedding was the desserts that were passed throughout the evening. I thought this was such a great idea. The worse part about being at a wedding is a few hours after dinner when some munchies would be great and there is nothing. We attempted with cheese and crackers at our wedding, but the desserts were just a fantastic idea! Over the course of the evening I tried a mini rootbeer float, many varieties of mini cupcakes, there were also some desserts in dishes that looked like icecream and various things, but by that point I was way to in to my dance routine. At the end of the night they even had mini cheeseburgers and fries! How fun!

Here are just a few pictures from the evening. I was having so much fun I neglected my camera, but hey, that is what the photographer is for I guess!
