teaser

I've been lacking a bit here as far as the wedding related posts go..so I thought I'd throw out a bit of a teaser. A while back I mentioned we'd done our cake tasting and decided on our fav flavor. We loved it so much we decided to pick one flavor only....drum roll... it will be an italian cream cake!

Now, if you're like me, I had no idea what made an italian cream cake..so i googled it:

1 stick margarine, (4 ounces)
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 small can flaked coconut
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1/2 cup shortening
5 egg yolks
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans, or walnuts

I'm positive this is not the recipe that contains Froelichs family secret, but you get the idea. The filling is the best part, it a bit of a cherry concoction. Sounds a bit strange, but trust me, it's awesome!

hand grenades, hurricanes and rainstorms

Well, our New Orleans trip has come and gone... after three days of hand grenades, hurricanes and rainstorms... we both could have used about three more! The trip was a lot of fun but went way to fast. We spent a lot of time eating, drinking and lounging. It was AWESOME to enjoy the warm weather too! While we were there we found the best store EVER!

All things fleur de lis! Even toilet paper! I REALLY had to hold myslef back but there were a few things I just could not resist. First, a fleur de lis door knocker which will be placed on our front door someday when we own a house, a fleur de lis cookie cutter which will hopefully make its debut soon..yum! And, a fleur de lis purple ceramic bowl made from a local artist. I was in HEAVEN! While walking around the city I noticed the symbol every where flags, tshirts, coffee cups, artwork, jewelry. We learned, from a post card, that since Katrina the city has adopted the symbol that now signifies hope, rebuild and restoration for the city. Just another reason while I love the fleur de lis.

off to the big easy

Last weekend we took a break from all the graduation excitment and planned our menu! We headed over to the Abbey and took another tour of the outside area, it was really pretty to see it with all the flowers in bloom. Then we headed inside and went over the menu, everything from appetizers, dinner.. to when we want each served. phew! We chose a couple of options so the beef, bird and veggies lovers will all be happy! So, with just a few more "big" things to go.. Mike and I are feeling pretty good! AND excited to leave tomorrow for our vacation to the "Big Easy" where we will be celebrating my bday!
